Cookie Policy
Last updated: 19/09/2026. What cookies are, which ones this site uses, and every way you can control them.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Some are essential plumbing, remembering that you already dismissed a banner or prefer dark mode. Others belong to third parties and support analytics or advertising across many sites. Cyprus is in the European Union, so the GDPR and the ePrivacy rules apply here in full: except for strictly necessary cookies, nothing is set on this site until you say yes through our consent banner.
2. How consent works on this site
On your first visit, a banner offers three choices: Accept all, Reject non-essential, or Manage preferences, which opens per-category toggles. Your choice is stored in a single first-party cookie for 12 months, after which we ask again. You can change your mind at any moment through the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page, which reopens the preferences panel. Rejecting non-essential cookies never blocks any content on this site.
3. The cookies we use
| Category | Cookie / source | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Necessary | cp_consent (first-party) | Stores your cookie consent choice | 12 months |
| Necessary (preference) | cp_theme (first-party) | Remembers your light or dark mode choice | 12 months |
| Analytics | _ga, _ga_* (Google Analytics 4) | Distinguishes visitors and sessions to measure readership; IP addresses anonymised | Up to 24 months |
| Advertising | Google AdSense cookies (e.g. from google.com, doubleclick.net) | Serve and measure ads; with consent, personalise them based on visits to this and other sites | Varies by cookie, up to 24 months |
The advertising category is operated by Google and its certified ad technology providers; the exact cookie names vary. Google documents them in its advertising cookie guides, and our Privacy Policy covers the personalised-advertising opt-outs at google.com/settings/ads and aboutads.info/choices.
4. Managing cookies in your browser
Beyond our own banner, every major browser lets you inspect, block and delete cookies globally or per site:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies / Site settings → Cookies.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Enhanced Tracking Protection and Cookies and Site Data.
- Safari (Mac and iOS): Settings → Safari (or Privacy) → Prevent cross-site tracking; Manage Website Data.
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies.
Blocking all cookies at browser level will also block the one that stores your consent choice, so the banner will reappear on each visit; that is the expected behaviour, not a fault. Deleting cookies signs you out of other websites but has no such effect here, since Cyprus Pulse has no login.
5. Cookies we do not use
For clarity: this site sets no social-media tracking pixels, no cross-device fingerprinting, no session-recording scripts, and stores nothing in your browser's local storage for tracking purposes. The newsletter signup stores nothing in your browser at all; the address you submit travels to our email service and nowhere else.
6. Changes and contact
If we add a cookie or change a duration, this page and its table are updated first and the date at the top changes. Material changes to the advertising or analytics categories re-trigger the consent banner. Questions about this policy: [email protected]. Related reading: our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
